Halloo Communications Embraces Jabber Instant Messaging for Real Time Call Control

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Sept. 7, 2004—

Halloo Communications® today announced the adoption of the Jabber instant messaging (IM) standard for real time call control in its Halloo Solo and Halloo Office small business communications services. The Halloo “virtual PBX” service offerings are built on a next-generation voice application platform that combines phone, email, fax, web and instant messaging to deliver advanced communications features to individuals and small businesses.

“For the first time, businesses will be able to take advantage of their existing instant messaging software to control voice calls,” explained Halloo CEO Jim Li. “Users will have the convenience of IM pop-ups to announce incoming calls with caller-ID, as well as dynamic routing of calls using their existing IM client. By embracing the IETF's Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP), Halloo leverages the widespread popularity of Jabber and the large installed based of XMPP compatible clients.”

“The Halloo application of XMPP instant messaging demonstrates the flexibility and utility of the Jabber standard, and represents an exciting new use of Jabber technologies,” said Jabber Software Foundation (JSF) Executive Director Peter Saint-Andre.

By taking advantage of open standards such as XMPP, SIP and HTTP, the Halloo voice application platform is able to respond quickly to the evolving feature requirements of customers in the exploding market for hosted communications services. In addition, cross-platform (Windows, Macintosh, Linux) access to all Halloo features is made possible by the use of standard web and IM clients.
